O how profound redemption is! How newness can come from what was old.
From this reflects how we are to steward beauty, imagination, and culture. A specific calling that lies with the creative, to be peacemakers in a time of war, suffering, and affliction. Bringing light into darkness, bringing beauty into a world that has lost its own, like a flower blooming up from two slabs of old concrete--this is our call. However, this responsibility does not only lie with the creative.
Creating is not just for sub creators (see previous blog, "We Are Sub Creators") as defined as one who produces originality in the visual arts and humanities. Rather, it is for sub creators as defined as one who cultivates beauty, hope, peace, & justice in word and/or deed. We are all called to create, we are all sub creators.
It is a call for the creative and the common man. O how I long not to miss this indescribable beauty that lies in the ordinary things! Beauty in the ordinary, such as acts of kindness; feeding the hungry, counseling the hurting, and putting someone else's need above our own. Creatives, do not miss this–to merely create from only the aesthetic would be to miss a great joy and grand opportunity we are all called to. If we create from both of these perspectives, from the aesthetic AND from the call to be peacemakers, we become partakers in redeeming the world as it ought to be.
