Calvary: the Hill and Artist Reformation have teamed up on a project! This summer (2014) beginning on July 20th Calvary is doing a 12 week sermon series called “Minor Prophets Minor Keys”. Each week there will be a sermon that is a description and overview of a different minor prophet. The idea is to have a new artist every week perform along with the sermons with a song they write that captures the heart and message of that particular prophet and then perform a concert. We are also planning on recording all the artists and releasing a digital album at the end of the series.
The Minor Prophets (the last 12 books of the Old Testament) are full of emotion, passion and metaphor. Although they are by any standard ancient texts, their voices deserve to be heard in our time. Their messages touch on oppression and suffering, compassion and mercy, love and betrayal. All of these themes are common in the music of our region so pairing the two together seemed both natural and beneficial. We are asking local artists to help us breath life into these messages for our own times. If you are interested in participating, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
